Translation v. Just Reading

Ginny,

I'm teaching from Oerberg and striving to use as much conversational Latin as possible and emulate some of the techniques from modern FL classes.

However, I know you have advocated the reading cards in the past and I can see them being a huge help, but do you think that if you can avoid 'translating' in class, but reading and discussing (in Latin) then its alright to ditch the cards?

I guess the gist of my question is: are reading cards favorable to the hunt-and-peck method, both of which assume a 'need-to-translate' mentality. If you get rid of the need to translate, would you get rid of the reading cards as well? Or would you advise against not translating.
