DAY 2

Aug. 28th, 2007 08:30 pm

1st, let me report that while I only had 13 kids in Latin 1 last year, this year I have (SO FAR).... 76!

Yes, that's 3 classes. 2 have 30 kids (2nd and 4th period), and my zero hour of 7th and 8th graders has 16.

craaaazzzzzyyyyy, man!

Anyway, I've been juggling stuff, trying to keep up, deal with paperwork, try to plan ahead (already behind), and set aside *NOW* to set up the electronic gradebook and ENTER GRADES....

And, of course, it is suddenly DOWN. Our grade website is down.

Today was a good day. I introduced my greetings vocab in a TPR sort of way--lots of repetition and gestures and fun stuff. The students responded well.

And the blog has been fun so far (see previous note). Not too many takers yet, but once people check it out, it will take off. I'm convinced.

But you can tell I'm tired. I'm too tired to even write here and carry on as if I know something incredible that I must impart.

Let me say this, though. If you're going into teaching because you think it is an easy job, boy, get a different vocation. It's hard work, to do well. I aim high, and don't give myself too much grief if I don't quite get there. I aim high and work my clunes off, still think of so many other things to do that don't get done...

Hard work, but good work. All my students coming to find me this week...I've never felt so loved. To know you make a difference, a REAL difference in the world, is such a high....
