So, I'm folding laundry again (I'm always doing this....they are like tribbles) and decided to watch a DVD I own called The Roman Empire in the First Century that was originally on PBS.  I remember liking it the first time though there were a few scenes that could not be shown to students. I even was a bit crazy and made a set of flashcards of scenes that would be worth showing as snippets to the class, but God knows where that set of little flashcards went to.  Not that it matters. 

I realized that their might be a website for this DVD and there is: http://www.pbs.org/empires/romans/index.html.  I have yet to fully explore the lessons that are there, etc.  I just know one thing: I have got to find a way to work in more culture and esp more history.  So I'm going to brainstorm on this.

I'm currently reading _Rubicon_ by Tom Holland, which has been an intriguing read. I feel like I'm getting a different take on the cast of characters from the Republic and their motivations.  I've noted an error or two in the book, which now makes me question everything, but otherwise this is getting my brain in gear for JCL.  I think locally next year is a "Republic" year anyway for certamen (we alternate years).

Of course, what I also want to think about is how to use Latin itself to review the material.

I also want to develop a nice worksheet/movie study guide that closely follows the DVD.  Ha...I was hoping the website would have such a beast.

Well, I'm going to go watch the DVD now and ponder all these things.  Yeah, and people think that teachers do nothing over the summer.  Yeah, right.

I feel your pain - I'm very tempted to purchase either the new book Bolchazy has coming out in the fall (don't remember the name, but Peggy Brucia is one of the authors) or Shelton's _As the Romans Did_ for my Latin I students so they can use it all 3 years of the course.
