What most people don't understand is that while it shouldn't take long to make a quick quiz, it does take a while to make a GOOD quick quiz.
I have sadly made very little progress since yesterday, and yet I have been productive. I printed up the set of quizzes I had made thus far and took them to my diet class. I was able to determine that the line spacing for students to write on needed tweeking and that I should probably have on each quiz and example of HOW I want the divide & accent extra credit to look.
More importantly, I realized I had to toss some of the chosen passages, some of which were already changes from what had originally been on the recitation sheet (see previous post). The problem was that there were too many new vocab items that were not in the vocab checklist for the stage or any other previous stage. I don't mind glossing one or two words, but when it becomes three or four words, that's too many. So back to the textbook for me.
Finding a passage that meets my needs--not too many new/first time words, includes samples of the targetted grammar for the chapter PLUS examples of nominatives and accusatives (for the 5 mult choice grammar questions)--isn't easy.
And, yes, I could save this and do one quiz at a time as needed, but I would rather figure out NOW rather than later by trial and error what will work.
Is this obsessive? Maybe. But perhaps this is also just a teacher who takes her craft seriously.
Occasionally I am told I am an overachiever, that I work too hard, etc. But then I am also told that I'm one of the best teachers in the school and a treasure to have. I can't see myself being mediocre. I already feel like last year was not my best in many ways. Do less? How, when there's always MORE to do!?!
Back to work.
